9 years on, Bandipora hospital awaits completion

Bandipora: Pending works in upcoming Bandipora district hospital has resulted in delay in its operation, leading to inconvenience to patients at the existing overcrowded hospital.
The new 50 bed hospital in Bandipora’s Nuso area for which work was started in 2011 has missed multiple deadlines. This delay, according to locals as well as officials, has hit patient care at the cramped up old hospital.
Officials said that 10 percent of the works including construction of modular operation theatres, lifts, bio-medical waste management plants, construction of boundary walls, ground levelling and fencing are pending.
Insiders say that lack of space in the old hospital has rendered several medical equipment defunct. It includes blood bank facility and dialysis unit.
Bandipora Chief Medical officer Dr Tajamul Hussain acknowledged problems in absence of facilities such as blood bank and dialysis unit saying they refer such patients to tertiary hospital for treatment. The only thing,
according to him, they do is providing ambulance to such patients without any charges.
“The hospital will be most likely completed by April next year,” Dr Tajamul added.
But given the previous promises, locals are pessimistic about the new deadline.
