Degree colleges fail to upload practical awards, adding to result delay

SRINAGAR: Degree colleges in Kashmir have put the career of hundreds of students at stake by delaying the awards of their practical assessment even as the results of their theory papers are ready.
The colleges affiliated with the University of Kashmir have failed to upload the awards of the practical assessment of undergrad 2nd and 3rd semester students, whose exams concluded in June this year, official sources at the KU told Kashmir Reader.
It has been learnt that the Controller Examinations at KU had written repeated reminders to the colleges that have delayed the practical awards of undergrad 2nd semester students of 2018 batch, but to no avail despite the varsity having sent the list of affected students to the institutes two weeks ago.
In a separate notification issued in this regard, the Controller Examinations KU has warned principals of degree colleges to upload the practical awards of 3rd semester undergrad students of 2017 batch by December 18 “failing which no such award will be accepted thereafter”.
It has also asked the colleges to upload the practical awards of 1st semester students of this year’s batch by December 21.
An official at the Controller Examinations’ office told Kashmir Reader that the defaulting colleges had held hostage the 2nd and 3rd semester results, which are ready.
“We would have declared the results of these semesters, but the practical awards are still awaited,” he said.
Pertinently, the KU had, last year also, warned degree colleges of “administrative action” after the institutes delayed the practical awards of the undergrad 2nd semester students by almost a year and half.
Even as the results were in the final stage, the defaulting degree colleges had not submitted the practical awards despite repeated requests from the KU administration.
