Reviews conservation, demarcation measures
SRINAGAR: Vice Chairman of J&K Lake Conservation & Management Authority (LCMA), Khurshid Ahmad Shah, on Thursday conducted an extensive inspection of the Khushalsar-Gilsar lake system, including Gil Kadal, Sazgaripora, Saidapora, and nearby areas. The visit aimed to review ongoing conservation and protection measures.
Accompanied by senior officials, Shah examined land demarcation efforts, inspecting identified parcels and assessing progress. He emphasized the importance of clearly demarcating water bodies and directed teams to expedite pegging and marking to ensure proper identification, protection, and monitoring.
He stressed the need for sustained vigilance and coordinated efforts, instructing officers to complete demarcation accurately and transparently within a set timeline. Regular inspections were also emphasized to prevent encroachments.
The Vice Chairman directed the Water Master and machinery to be mobilized immediately for cleaning and restoration activities at Khushalsar-Gilsar. He underscored the importance of logistical arrangements to ensure machinery becomes operational without delay.
Reviewing protective measures, he called for strengthening physical defenses along vulnerable stretches. The Engineering Wing was tasked with preparing a proposal for installing chain link fencing to secure demarcated areas, discouraging encroachments, and aiding long-term preservation.
Reaffirming LCMA’s commitment, Shah highlighted the importance of scientific management, ongoing monitoring, and field interventions to protect these urban wetlands—crucial for ecological balance, urban environment, and Kashmir’s natural heritage.
