Exchange of fire along LoC rattles Uri villagers

BARAMULLA: Almost a month after remaining calm, guns again roared in Hajipeer area of Uri with cross-LoC firing continuing for almost three hours on Wednesday.
The firing that started around 9 in the morning continued till 11 am saw use of motors and resulted in damage to several houses mostly in Silikote area. The firing rattled the entire area with many families shifting to safer places.
According to Sub-District Magistrate Uri Riyaz Ahmad Malik, the firing has partially damaged several houses and the administration is ready to tackle any eventuality.
He said that ambulances have been placed in every area to immediately shift any injured.
Malik added that government has also kept provision for providing shelter and other facilities to any one migrating due to firing.
Meanwhile nine families of Silikote area on Wednesday shifted to Uri Higher Secondary school, where few families are already staying who shifted more than a month ago.
Also a live shell has been reported to have struck the house of Mohammad Rafiq Parray in Balkote area.
