Snowfall aftermath: Power, water shortage hit north Kashmir villages

BARAMULLA: Several villages in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district have been hit by power and water shortage due to recent snowfall and the residents slam administration for failing to restore essential services.
The worst hit areas are Pattan and LoC in Uri and Kupwara. Over 40 villages in Pattan are yet to receive power and water supply. The locals of Goshbug andAndergam areas complain of water shortage and power breakdowns.
Electricity is also yet to be restored in TangmargCharunda, Kamalkote in Uri and Karna area in Kupwara.
While officials maintain that they are clearing trees to restore power and said efforts are being made to make potable water available to the residents.
District Development Comissioner, G N Yatoo told Kashmir Reader that every effort is being made to restore power and water supply.
He said that the district administration is working in unison with Power Development Department to ensure that power is restored. “In Pattan area, high tension power tower was damaged that has been restored and supply from Wagoora receiving station is being restored,” he said.
He added that 22 water tankers are providing water to the areas where supply has been hit after the power breakdown.
