Zakir Musa group wiped out with Awantipora gunfight: DGP

Srinagar: The two-year old Ansar Gazwatul Hind (AGH) has been wiped out from Kashmir Valley after the killing of its three last surviving militants in Tuesday’s Rajpora gunfight, Director General of Police Dilbagh Singh said on Wednesday.
Addressing a presser, the police chief said that the slain trio included Hameed Lone alias Hameed Lelhari. He took over the outfit after the AGH founder Zakir Musa was killed by government forces in May. The other two slain were Naveed Ahmad Tak of Batpora and Junaid Rashid of Nowdal Tral.
According to Singh, the trio was involved in several attacks on forces and worked in collusion with Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) and Laskhar-e-Toiba (LeT). AK47 and AK 46 rifles were recovered from the slain militants.
“Jaish is currently trying to coordinate with every militant group operating within the valley. Both JeM and LeT decide the targets and work in coordination with every group to complete it,” he said.
The DGP claimed that since August 5, when the Government of India abrogated Article 370, the momentum of youth joining militant ranks has come down drastically.
Only some five to six youth have gone missing from their homes since then but it necessarily does not mean that they have joined militant groups, he said.
“There can be other reasons behind their decision to leave home,” he added.
“Forces were alert on ground to respond to Pulwama-like attack on forces. It is difficult to anticipate anything since there have been threats by Pakistan including their Prime Minister (Imran Khan).
“Pulwama-like incidents can happen anywhere as Pakistan knows their militant groups like LeT are working for them. We are alert on ground to take care of these threats,” Singh said.
Replying to a question about suspension of post-paid mobile phones, the DGP said, “No wrong decision will be taken by the government till we behave responsibly. The telephones were blocked after proper assessing of situation and the same procedure was followed when the service was resumed.”
According to him, proper security arrangements will be put in place for conducting Board exams in the valley and BDC elections.
