Anganwadi workers protest to press for their demands

Srinagar: Anganwadi workers Thursday staged protest against the government for ‘failing’ to increase their monthly honorarium at par with the rest of the states.

The protesting Anganwadi workers assembled at Srinagar’s Pratap Park and chanted slogans against the government and in favour of their demands.

The workers were demanding government to increase their monthly honorarium upto Rs 14000 per month.

The protesters said that the government has miserably failed to look into the issues pertaining to the Anganwadi workers, who are working are serving the department on meager amount.

They said that the government has ignored the Anganwadi workers at all fronts. “We are serving the department with dedication and honesty but the government is turning their eye blind towards our plights,” they said, adding that the government should have increased the monthly honorarium of the workers upto Rs 14000 per month.

Protesters said that the government has assured them several times that their genuine demands will be fulfilled soon but unfortunately all the promises and assurances done with them proved hoax on the ground.

“Every successive regime has failed to fulfil its promises done with the Anganwadi workers,” they said, adding that the government should take immediate steps in this regard to put an immediate end to the sufferings of people.

They said that they will continue to protest against the government till the demands won’t meet.

Earlier this year, Anganwadi workers staged protested for over one week to press the government over their demands.

However the protesters said that their genuine demands were not fulfilled thereby resulting in immense hardships to them.

“After hoax assurances, we were once again forced to take streets against the government,” they said.

The protesters later dispersed peacefully.
