CM hails India’s vote against US move on Jerusalem

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Friday hailed India for defying US President Donald Trump and voting against the US move to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel at UN.

“Very proud to see that India joined over 100 countries at the UN to vote against recognising Jerusalem as the official capital of Israel,” Mehbooba, tweeted.

“This vote further reaffirms our stand & support to Palestine,” she tweeted.

Pertinently, more than 100 countries including India defied US President Donald Trump on Thursday and voted in favour of a United Nations General Assembly resolution calling for the United States to drop its recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.

Meanwhile, Israel has rejected as “preposterous” the vote by 127 countries, including India, thanking the nations that supported “the truth” by not participating in “the theatre of the absurd”, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was quoted by media reports.

“Jerusalem is our capital. Always was, always will be,” Netanyahu said in a video message released immediately after the UN vote.
