3 men caught in snow storm rescued in Kathua

Jammu: Three men, who went missing on their way to Kathua district from Chattar Galla pass on Tuesday evening following a snow storm, have been rescued, police said today.

They were rescued yesterday from a shed left out by nomads in the Galo area and brought back home in Bani tehsil of Kathua district, a senior officer said today.

Ganesh, Rumal Chand and Kuldeep were returning to their village in Bani from Bhaderwah belt of Doda district when they were caught in the snow storm on Bhadarwah-Basholi highway, officials said.

The snow storm was triggered by heavy snowfall in the Bhadarwah Valley due the western disturbance over Jammu and Kashmir, they added.

The Chattar Galla pass had received nearly 7 feet snow till 5 PM yesterday.

A joint search and rescue operation was launched yesterday afternoon by the Army teams and the police assisted by an IAF chopper, the officials said, adding that the chopper had to flew back due to inclement weather.

“As soon we came to know about the incident, teams from Rashtriya Rifles, and the police immediately started a search operation from Thantera to Chattar Galla stretch of the highway,” Masood Ahmed, tehsildar Bhadarwah, said. PTI AB
