Pulse Polio Immunisation Programme launched across Jammu Division

JAMMU: The Pulse Polio Immunisation Programme 2026 was officially launched across Jammu Division today, with high-level events held at various locations to promote awareness and ensure full coverage of children under five years of age.
At the main event held at Government Hospital Sarwal in Jammu, Member of Parliament Sat Sharma (CA) served as the chief guest and administered polio drops to children, while MLA Jammu West Arvind Gupta attended as guest of honour. The programme saw the deployment of 22,304 health workers and volunteers across the division, operating from 5,402 vaccination booths, along with 148 transit points and 130 mobile teams. The initiative aims to vaccinate approximately 8.24 lakh children, safeguarding the region’s polio-free status.
During the event, officials emphasized the importance of immunisation in protecting children from preventable diseases. They appealed to parents and caregivers to actively participate in the campaign, ensuring every child receives the polio vaccine during National Immunisation Day and subsequent house-to-house activities.
Similarly, in Doda district, Deputy Commissioner Krishan Lal inaugurated the district-wide Pulse Polio drive at the OPD Complex of the Government Medical College. The district has set a target to vaccinate over 57,500 children through 507 booths, with mobile teams conducting door-to-door visits to reach all eligible children. The DC stressed the importance of continued vigilance, despite the country’s polio-free status, and appreciated the efforts of healthcare workers, ASHAs, Anganwadi workers, and volunteers.
In Kathua district, Deputy Commissioner Rajesh Sharma launched the three-day Pulse Polio campaign at Government Mahatma Gandhi Hospital, administering drops to children and urging parents to ensure complete immunisation coverage. The district has set a target of over 1 lakh children, with vaccination efforts extending to slum areas and migratory populations through special teams.
Reasi district also kicked off its National Immunisation Day campaign at the District Hospital, where Deputy Commissioner Kumar Abhishek supervised the setup of 384 vaccination booths and appealed to parents to bring their children for immunisation. The drive aims to vaccinate nearly 60,000 children over two days, with mobile teams conducting door-to-door visits to prevent any child from being missed.
All district administrations reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining polio-free status through sustained immunisation efforts and community participation. Healthcare officials and frontline workers continue to play a vital role in ensuring the success of these campaigns, which are crucial in safeguarding children’s health and preventing resurgence of the disease.
Deputy Commissioner Poonch Ashok Kumar Sharma on Sunday formally inaugurated the three-day Intensified Pulse Polio Immunisation Campaign at Raja Sukhdev Singh District Hospital, Poonch.
The DC informed 427 Pulse Polio booths have been established across the district, with 854 teams deployed, besides 13 dedicated teams stationed at check posts and high-footfall areas including bus stands to cover children aged zero to five years. Over the next two days, door-to-door teams will visit households to identify and vaccinate children who missed booth-based sessions.
CMO Poonch Dr Parvaiz Ahmed Khan said June 28 has been dedicated to booth-based vaccination, with June 29 and 30 focussed on house-to-house vaccination to cover missed children. Poonch district has identified 79,560 children aged zero to five for vaccination. The 427 booths include 32 in Urban Poonch, 140 in Mandi, 120 in Mendhar and 135 in Surankote.
A total of 86 supervisors have been deployed, each monitoring five booths. The target child population includes 4,320 in Urban Poonch, 24,670 in Mandi, 26,000 in Mendhar and 24,570 in Surankote, with the campaign covering 92,903 households across the district.
Special arrangements have been made for 24 hard-to-reach areas, six high-focus areas, 13 transit points, four mobile teams and four mela/bazaar teams. A total of 1,708 team members, including paramedics, ASHA workers, Anganwadi Workers and volunteers, have been deployed.
Among those present were Chief Medical Officer Dr Parvaiz Ahmed Khan, Medical Superintendent District Hospital Dr Mohd Shafeeq, Deputy Chief Medical Officer Dr Ruby Naz Bhatti and District Immunisation Officer Dr Zoohra Parveen.
The campaign was simultaneously launched across all subdivisions, including Mendhar, Surankote and Mandi and conducted at Government Primary Health Centres, Sub-Centres, schools and Anganwadi Centres, with participation from former PRI representatives and senior citizens.
District Administration Ramban on Sunday launched the three-day Intensified Pulse Polio Immunisation (IPPI) Campaign–2026 across the district.
On the inaugural day, MLA Ramban Arjun Singh Raju and the Chief Medical Officer administered polio drops to children at District Hospital Ramban, while Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Alyas Khan and ADC Varunjeet Singh Charak administered drops at CHC Batote.
Despite adverse weather, 56,302 children were immunised on the first day, 94.5% of the 59,530 children targeted, aged zero to five years, across the district.
The DC lauded the efforts of frontline health workers and other department functionaries and appreciated the ground teams who ensured extensive coverage despite rainfall on the first day.
The district administration established 425 vaccination booths, including nine transit booths, across the four medical blocks of Gool, Ukhral, Batote and Banihal. A total of 1,700 officials and workers, supported by 85 supervisors, have been deployed for the drive. Mobile and transit teams — comprising supervisors, teachers, health workers, ASHAs and Anganwadi workers — are engaged in implementation and monitoring, with focus on remote and snowbound areas.
The campaign will continue for the next two days as per the district action plan for 2026.
