One person injured in firing on protesters in Qazigund

Srinagar: A protester was seriously injured when government forces opened fire  on them at Nusu, Badragund and Bonigam villages in Qazigund area, the site of last night’s gunfight between militants and the forces which left three militants and a securityman killed and two others wounded.

The injured identified as Manzoor Ahmad Magrey, son of Gul Mohammad Magrey received bullets in thigh and was rushed to Anantnag district hospital, officials said.

Eyewitnesses said massive clashes erupted amid a shutdown in several areas of south kashmir’s Kulgam district today where three LET militants were killed during last night gunfight with government forces.

They said clashes erupted near the site of the gunfight in Nusu Badragund and Bonigam villages in Qazigund area against the militant killings.

They said government forces resorted to massive teargas shelling to disperse the protesters who in retaliation  pelted stones. However, later they opened fire in which Magrey got injured.

 The Clashes were also reported from Vesu and Devsar area besides other adjoining villages.

An eye witness said that the traffic on Srinagar-Jammu national highway was affected  due to the clashes near Qazigund. Officials said the traffic has been diverted to Verinag-Anantnag highway.

The authorities have already suspended the train and internet services in twin districts of Anantnag and Kulgam soon after the firefight broke out yesterday.

Earlier, several funeral prayers were offered for slain LET militant Yawar Bashir at his native village Hablish in Kulgam district after the authorities handed over his body to the next of kins.

Yawar was killed in a gunfight that erupted after militants attacked an army patrol on the highway in bounigam area of qazigund yesterday.

Two other LET militants identified as Furqan and Maviya, who were also killed in the gunfight had been laid to rest in the dead of the night at Gantmulla in north kashmir’s Baramulla district, a police official said. (Kashmir Wire)
