ANANTNAG/GANDERBAL: In a proactive effort to ensure foolproof security arrangements and effective emergency preparedness for the upcoming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra-2026, police in Ganderbal and Anantnag districts have conducted a series of comprehensive mock drills across strategic locations.

In Anantnag, police officials carried out high-intensity drills including simulated grenade and sniper attack scenarios. At GrendAishmuqam, a mock exercise mimicked a grenade attack, testing the swift response capabilities of security agencies. The exercise focused on area sanitization, civilian evacuation, casualty management, traffic regulation, cordoning off affected zones, and search operations. Personnel from Police, CRPF, SDRF, Fire & Emergency Services, Health Department, and other agencies participated actively, demonstrating seamless inter-agency coordination and adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Additionally, at Langabal in Pahalgam, police conducted a simulation of a sniper attack to assess and enhance the operational readiness of security forces. During these exercises, security teams responded promptly to simulated threats by securing the area, neutralizing the threat through coordinated tactical measures, evacuating civilians, managing casualties, and conducting area domination and search operations—ensuring all actions aligned with established SOPs.

In Ganderbal district, multiple drills were held at Model Naka Chinner, Kijpora, and Margund. These exercises aimed to bolster coordination, preparedness, and rapid response capabilities among all security and emergency agencies involved in facilitating the pilgrimage. The participating teams demonstrated prompt action, effective communication, and coordinated efforts, thoroughly testing contingency plans and SOPs to ensure seamless functioning during the Yatra.

In continuation of the security preparedness, Anantnag police also conducted a high-intensity mock drill at Nunwan Base Camp in Pahalgam, simulating a fidayeen attack scenario. The exercise aimed to evaluate the response mechanism, tactical coordination, and operational readiness in dealing with high-risk terrorist contingencies.

On activation of the simulated threat, security forces swiftly secured the base camp, isolated the affected zone, neutralized the threat through coordinated tactical measures, evacuated pilgrims and civilians to designated safe zones, provided medical assistance to simulated casualties, and carried out search and sanitization operations—all in accordance with SOPs. The exercise showcased high levels of interoperability among police, CRPF, SDRF, Fire & Emergency Services, Health Department, and other stakeholders.

These rigorous drills underscore the police and security agencies’ steadfast commitment to providing a secure, peaceful, and hassle-free environment for pilgrims and the public during SANJY-2026. Regular scenario-based exercises and mock drills continue to reinforce operational preparedness, ensuring a swift, coordinated, and effective response to any security challenge that may arise during the pilgrimage.
