Anantnag: Even after seven years, construction of a school building started in 2010 at Chariepora-Hapatnad village of Anantnag district has not been completed, forcing students to attend their classes in open, irrespective of weather conditions.
There are 245 students enrolled currently in the school.
The contractor of the building has left the construction work halfway a few years back and the dream of students to study in the school remained unfulfilled, said a villager, Habibullah Rather.
He alleged that the contractor has even claimed the payment. “One wonders how the payment was released in favour of the contractor without completing his job? Rather argued.
Another villager, Umar Khursheed, whose wards are studying in the school, said they have approached all concerned to get the school building completed but without any success. “The officials of the education department visit the spot but do not dare to take any action against the contractor with the result students have to suffer, especially during winter.
He said for 245 students there is not even basic facilities of a toilet. The students have to answer to the nature of calls outside the school, although ministers in the state assembly claim to have set up toilets and provided water connections to hundreds and thousands of schools. (Kashmir Wire)
