Water scarcity hits Shah Hamdan Colony Khoja Bagh

Srinagar: Residents of Shah Hamdan colony in Khoja Bagh area of Baramulla district are up in are against the  Public Health Engineering (PHE) department for their failure to provide proper drinking facilities.

Residents from Shah Hamdan colony said they were facing acute scarcity of water from past many weeks however the authorities are in deep slumber to address the issue.

“We are facing immense problems due to scarcity of drinking water. It is ironical that the concerned authorities in PHE department are giving a deaf ear to the grave issue,” the residents said.

The residents accused the department of adopting selective approach in providing drinking water facilities saying the authorities were giving preferential treatment to certain areas at the cost of deserving ones.

“Our area didn’t receive water for last many weeks while as the department particularly the ground staff is managing hassle free supply to the influential people who are using this water for car washing and cleaning purpose,” locals said. “But we don’t get a drop to drink.”

The residents accused the ground staff of lackadaisical approach in delivering their duties saying that it takes a week’s time to repair a simple leakage in a water pipe. “The ground staff is taking general public for a ride and makes us suffer for want of drinking water,” the locals said.

The deputy commissioner Baramulla, Nasir Ahmad Naqash said the matter will be taken up the concerned authorities of PHE department Baramulla.

“I will take up matter with executive engineer and other officials of the PHE department to address the public grievance,” he said.
