Unscheduled power cuts irk Anantnag residents

Anantnag: Inhabitants of various areas in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district are up in arms against the Power Development Department (PDD) for ‘failing to provide adequate electricity n their areas.’

Inhabitants of various areas including Main Anantnag,  Dooru, Pahalgam, Bijbehara, Kokernag, Verinag and other areas have accused the higher authorities for ignoring their plights and have demanded immediate redressal of their genuine grievance.

The residents of said areas told Kashmir Vision that the PDD has completely failed to provide them scheduled electricity especially in peak hours.

Locals said that with the unscheduled power cuts in the area, the people are being forced to take to streets.

“We are continuously pleading before the higher ups in this regard while the authorities assured us to redress their grievance but the promises made by the authorities proved hoax,” they said.

The residents threatened to stage protests against PDD department in case they fail to redress their grievances.

“If the unnecessary power cuts won’t end, we will block the roads to protest against the department.

A group of students said, “We are suffering badly as our exams are going on and we are facing unscheduled power cuts.”

Despite repeated attempts, SE PDD South Circle Ghulam Rasool Khanday was not available to comment on the issue.
