KU appoints ‘blue eyed candidate’ as Medical Officer

Srinagar: Throwing all the norms to wind, the authorities in Kashmir University (KU) have accommodated a blue eyed candidate as Medical Officer (MO), in Zakura campus.

The appointment, official sources said was made without advertising the post and seeking  applications from the eligible aspirants.

“The selection was made to accommodate the blue eyed candidate and accomplish the concerns of vested interests,” a top official said.

He said the matter also landed in the office of J&K Governor however, KU administration managed to hush up the matter.

“After a complaint was submitted in Raj Bhawan, a notice was served by Court as well, but KU authorities managed to keep the matter under the carpet,” the official added.

According to sources, the candidate selected for the post is daughter of Vice Chancellor Central University of Kashmir (CUK), who has personally managed the selection.

“Actually the deal was done between the VC-KU and VC-CUK. Earlier VC-CUK was one of the members of selection committee for appointment of Dean Academic Affairs and VC KU got a junior Professor appointed for the post,” the source said.

He said the appointment of junior professor as Dean left the whole faculty aghast.

The sources said the KU had advertised post of two medical officers- one male and one female for the health centre of main campus.

“But VC of CUK persuaded VC-KU to accommodate her daughter following which Prof Khurshid Iqbal Andrabi managed her selection in Zakura campus,” the sources said.

Notably, the post of the placement officer lying vacant in KU was converted into a medical officer’s post to accommodate the blue eyed candidate.

“Later on September 26, she was confirmed on the post,” the sources said.

Sources said that given the way the appointments in the KU are being done, the teaching and non-teaching staff are against the extension of the present VC for his being allegedly involved in fraudulent appointments and other administrative mess in the campus.

“Nobody wants him here,” the sources said.
