National Innovation Foundation team meets Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities

Srinagar: National Innovation Foundation (NIF)-India department of Science and Technology GOI meets Commissioner for persons with Disabilities J&K Govt Iqbal Lone.

A three member team lead by Mahesh Patel (National Innovation Coordinator, NIF-India along with Drvivek Kumar Sr. innovation officer and Mr. Syed Nadeem Hussain (Innovation Fellow) met Commissioner for Persons with disabilities  Iqbal Lone.

The meeting was held at office chamber of the Commissioner to discuss how to build better innovation ecosystem in valley and role in addressing the problems of persons with disabilities to fulfil the long felt need for scouting, documenting, incubating and rewarding innovations and outstanding traditional knowledge at grassroots and to inculcate the spirit of innovations and self-employment among the youth of the Valley.

The NIF team also demonstrated some of the innovative tools to be used and introduced for persons with disabilities having quite difficult for old, physically challenged or person recuperating from lower limb problems to climb up or down stairs using conventional four leg walkers, Modified walker comprises spring-loaded self- locking front legs to address this issue.

These products are very stable, light weight, suitable for all sizes of stairs and for inclined surface as well ?Useful for children, old, person with disability and patients undergoing medical treatment etc. The Commissioner further expressed his deep desire to work with NIF and to encourage innovation in disability sector for the overall support and wellbeing of persons with disabilities in the state.

Lone also emphasized on needs of innovation and cost effective tools and support structures for persons with disabilities and formally invited NIF in the state to build the capacities of local entrepreneurs to manufacture these innovative tools within this state.
