A militant was killed in an ongoing gunfight with government forces in Kalghi area of Uri in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Sunday, police said.
“During search op, #terrorists opened fire. Villagers entrapped in gun battle rescued. 1 terrorist killed so far. Operation is still on,” IGP North Kashmir Nitish Kumar wrote on twitter.
According to the officials, forces cordoned off the area after receiving inputs about the presence of militants.
“As they reached the suspected spot, the militants opened fire,” he said, adding that the forces retaliated”.
Sources said that three militants are beleived to be trapped in the cordon. Heavy firing was going on when the reports came in.
