Sopore youth booked under PSA

An 18-year old youth hailing from Sopore town has been booked under Public Safety Act (PSA), for allegedly being involved in stone pelting and working on the ‘directions of Hurriyat activists during 2016 unrest’. The youth has been sent to Kotbalwal jail in Jammu.

“Reyaz Ahmad Dar son of Mohammad Akbar of Nasser Abad of Sopore town was arrested on 9th September 2017 from his maternal uncle’s home in Naseerabad area for participating in protests during 2016 unrest. He was kept under detention in police station Sopore on various charges. He has now been slapped with PSA and shifted to Kotbalwal jail in Jammu on 20th September,” Dar’s relative said.

Reyaz Ahmad is “working on the directions of separatist elements whose aim was to disrupt peaceful atmosphere and to motivate youth to work for secession of JK,” reads the charge sheet that has been filed by the police against him.

Pertinently, Reyaz was detained by police previously on allegations of stone pelting, participating protest rallies and working on directions of Hurriyat activists in the area.
