The State Human Rights Commission (SHRC), Wednesday came down heavily on the government for being callous to the sufferings of a young girl who was wounded by a bullet leading her to a state of paraplegia (body paralysis).
Pertinently, Flori Jan (14), daughter of Ghulam Muhammad Bhat of Nepora village of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district had received bullet injuries in her neck. The spinal injury resulting in paraplegia and made the girl completely dependent on others.
Taking up the case the SHRC had directed the government to provide her monetary assistance of Rs one lakh, however, the State Government according to the Commission provided only Rs 25,000 to the family of the victim.
Terming the attitude of government inhuman and barbaric, Chairman State Human Rights Commission Justice Bilal Nazki said that the government has shown its insensitiveness towards the plight of this young girl by refusing to accept the recommendations of the Commission of paying an amount of Rs one lakh.
Chairman SHRC viewed the matter seriously and directed the Commissioner Secretary Home Department Jammu and Kashmir to file a detailed report in the matter by or before November 1st.
The Commission also directed the office to send order dated 19/9/2017 passed in the case to Principal Secretary to Chief Minister J&K State for information.
