Five months on, DIET Sopore remains headless

Despite tall claims of the government over streamlining the educational sector in the state, the District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district is painting a grim picture of the educational scenario as the institute continues to remain headless from the past five months.

The absence of Principal in DIET Sopore has adversely affected the academic functioning of the institute.

Sources informed Kashmir Vision that DIET, which is functioning without Principal since past five months has resulted in immense hardships to the teaching staff as well as the students.

Officials said that all the routine administrative works of the Institute have come to a standstill, owing to the absence of the principal.

They said that due to the lack of Principal in DIET, they are being forced to visit Chief Education Office Baramulla for minor issues.

“We are facing a lot of problems due to the absence of the Principal here but unfortunately nobody is paying heed over our sufferings,” said a teacher.

Another teacher working since years in DIET Sopore said, “Due to non availability of Principal, we are unable to conduct workshops in outskirts of town. This is not the first time that DIET is functioning without principal as before a few years, DIET managed to work without a permanent principal for nearly one year due to which teachers as well as staff of the institute faced immense hardships.”

Admitting the facts that the teaching staff is facing hardships due to the absence of Principal, Chief Education Officer (CEO) Baramulla, Abdul Latief told ‘Kashmir Vision’ that this matter needs to be redressed at earliest. He said that he will take up this matter with higher ups very soon.

Despite repeated attempts, Director Education Kashmir, G N Itoo couldn’t be contacted for the comments.
