Strict restrictions imposed during Rajnath’s south Kashmir visit

Strict restrictions were put in place in Anantnag town on Sunday as Home Minister Rajnath Singh visited this south Kashmir area.

Singh, who arrived in Srinagar on a four-day visit to the state yesterday, interacted with J&K police personnel at district Police Line (DPL) Khanabal and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) men of 90 battalion camped in Batengoo area of the district.

A day ahead of his visit, militants had attacked a police party at bus stand, barely a kilometer away from Khanbal.

A cop was killed in the attack while another was wounded.

According to a police official, strict security arrangements were put in place in the entire district to thwart any attempt of disrupting the visit.

Police, paramilitary forces and even army men wearing riot gears and armed with sophisticated weapons manned the streets of the town as well as Srinagar-Jammu highway.

Authorities had imposed strict restrictions in main town Anantnag and other areas of district and sealed all roads of tehsils leading to district headquarters.

Spools of barbed wire were erected at Moominabad- Dooru road, Khanabal-Pahalgam (KP) road, Janglatmandi- Achabal-Kokernag road and Khanabal-Bijbehara road. No vehicular movement was allowed on these roads during Singh’s visit.

“Even pedestrians were not allowed during this time,” locals said.
