Abida Nazir becomes first female from Kashmir to become JKCA CAC member

Coached historic J&K women’s team in 2021

SRINAGAR: Abida Nazir Khan, a Lecturer in the Youth Service and Sports Department and an elite ex-cricketer from Kashmir, has created history by becoming the first female from Kashmir to be appointed as a member of the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC).

Abida was also the first female from Kashmir to qualify for the Level-A course in the first batch of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) with an A grade. She has further qualified for the NIS Certificate Course with an A grade.

Playing Career

Her illustrious playing career includes appearances in over 40 Senior Women One-Day matches and 12 Senior Women Days matches. She represented Kurukshetra University for two years in All India Inter-University Cricket Tournaments and also participated in All India Inter-University Baseball Tournaments for two years.

Coaching Achievements

Abida has coached the Senior Women’s Cricket Team of Jammu and Kashmir at the BCCI women’s elite level. She coached the historic JK Senior Women’s team that made history in 2021 by qualifying for knockout matches for the first time. She has coached the senior women’s team on multiple occasions and has also coached the U-19 women’s team numerous times.

Selection and Administrative Roles

She has worked as a senior selector for JKCA for several seasons and has been working as a selector for cricket in the Youth Service and Sports Department since 2009.

Awards and Recognition

– Awarded by the District Administration (DC) Srinagar for outstanding contribution in the field of sports in 2022.

– Awarded by the Director General, Youth Service and Sports, Jammu and Kashmir, as Best Teacher in 2024.

– Awarded by HF Foundation for outstanding contribution as an asset to society and an agent of positive change in 2025.

– Was a runner-up for the Best Speaker Award at Kurukshetra University in 2006.

– Nominated by the World Human Rights Organisation for a prestigious award on Women’s Day 2026 (function could not be held due to some reasons).

Other Contributions

She was part of the first Oasis Friendship Camp (NGO) Life Movement in 2023. Currently, she is working as a Senior Lecturer in Physical Education.
