Budgam witnesses volleyball matches under floodlight

 

Under floodlights two semi-final matches of volleyball tournament were played at Budgam on Monday evening, making it one of its kind in the district.

The first match started at around 8:00Pm between the teams: Youth Services and Sports (YSS) and Dharmunna Eleven (DE), in which DE defeated YSS straight in first three sets.

Another match was played between teams: Srinagar Eleven (SE) and Baramulla Eleven (BE), in which BE defeated SE by 3- 2. The final result of the match was confirmed in fifth set, earlier both the teams won 2 sets each, while fifth set was  dominated  by BE, thus wining the match.

The final match of the tournament will be played between teams DE and BE on upcoming Sunday at 8:00 PM.

Meanwhile, as the news of matches—which were scheduled to be played under floodlights—went viral on social media, huge rush of people left the cosy atmosphere at their home moved towards the ground. The crowd was also witnessed cheering and encouraging the players of teams during the match.

 “Earlier, we have seen  the matches being played under flood lights on our television screens , first time such a thing is happening in our area,” a spectator, Bashrat told Kashmir Vision. 

“As I saw the pictures of the match being played under floodlights on whatsapp, within seconds I left my home and along with my two friends and headed towards the ground,” he said.  

A social media sports activist, Mustaq War, who was present during the matches said that it was a major development in the history of sports in J&K.

“Here we have grounds but there is a need to improve the infrastructure at every such level, so that the international level games will be played here,” he said.

The volleyball tournament is being organised by Department of Youth Services and Sports (YSS) in collaboration with 25 RR. 4o team from different areas of the valley participated in the tournament.
