Thieves on prowl in Ellahi Bagh

The unabated and frequent incidents of thefts in Rangpora, Ellahi Bagh area in outskirts of the city have resulted in fear among the residents.

Locals on Monday told ‘Kashmir Vision’ that a boutique was looted in the area by some unidentified thieves.

“At around 2 am, they barged inside our house. Stole the goods worth Rs 3 lakhs that included readymade garments and other items,” said Zahoor Ahmad, who runs the ‘New Taj Boutique’.

“It is not for first time that the incident has happened. It is happening frequently. But nobody among the authorities is bothered to take this public grievance seriously,” Ahmad said.

However, he claimed that locals have captured a suspect who is now lying in the police custody.

Meanwhile, a delegation of non-locals labourers working in the area said that many of their belongings were stolen in the past few months.

“We lost around six mobile phones, clothes, and Rs 2,000 cash,” said Mohammadd Wasim Khan, who hails from Bihar.

In March this year, the thieves decamped with Rs 35 lakhs from the residence of Ghulam Mohammad Bhat, a local.

“Later, we approached the police station Zakura in this regard. But nothing happened so far,” Bhat said.

Superintendent of Police Hazratbal, Peerzada Naveed said that they are working to sort out the issue.

“These incidents are in my notice and we are working on it,” the SP said.
