PDP terms attack on yatra biggest ‘crime against humanity’

Ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) on Tuesday while condemning the gruesome attack on Amarnath pilgrims termed the incident “a biggest crime against the humanity.”

Party’s Srinagar district president and upper house member Mohammad Khurshid Alam while addressing an emergency meeting with the party workers at the summer capital stated that the Kashmiri society does not identify with such sadistic ideology and hence people should make every effort to diffuse tensions on religious lines.

Alam maintained further that image of Jammu and Kashmir known in the entire world as a hub of communal harmony and tolerance has witnessed a severe blow. However, he said that the condemnation to such a cowardly act is pouring in from all corners of Kashmir and that reflects peace loving nature of the common masses in the state.

Praying for the speedy recovery of the injured, Alam said that heart goes out to the families of the bereaved and that the party expresses its heartfelt condolences to them. “The annual Amarnath Yarta has been going on peacefully for centuries and is part of our yearly rhythm and will remain so. We hope that we will continue to host the pilgrims as Kashmir used to since centuries,” Alam said.

Hailing the chief minister Mehbooba Mufti for her resolve to bring culprits to the book, PDP leader stated that the government is committed to ensure peaceful Yatra in the state and that the entire state machinery is working on tenterhooks for the same.

“What chief minister stated after the attack is the voice of the people of the entire state. We hail her resolve and are optimistic that no such cowardly act shall get repeated and every attempt is made to ensure safety of the pilgrims,” Alam added.
