Speaker tenders apology as Rana takes exception to Minister’s lynching threat

Speaker, Kavinder Gupta, Wednesday tendered an apology as senior NC leader, Devinder Singh Rana, took an umbrage to the “threat’’ of lynching by Information  and Technology Minister, Imran Raza Ansari, to him.

Seeking action against PDP MLA and Minister, Imran Ansari, for his ‘lynching’ remarks, National Conference Jammu provincial president and Nagrota  MLA,  Devinder Singh Rana,  sought the direction from the Speaker to the Director General of Police (DGP) to file and FIR against Ansari. He stressed that ”if anything happens to me  responsibility lies with the government.’’

The issue continued to lead to disruptions in the Assembly as Rana was not pacified over the apology by the Speaker, Kavinder Gupta who later adjourned the proceedings of the House.

Earlier as soon as the session started today, Devinder Rana, took the issue and threatened that he will be forced to lodge an FIR in case the Speaker fails to issue a direction seeking action “ over the criminal intimidation’’ by the Minister.

“If  you will not do it, I will walk up to the Shaheed Ganj police station and lodge an FIR.  I have a right and this can’t be denied to me as it is a criminal case,” Rana said.

The opposition created ruckus and demanded that the Speaker should listen to Rana and issue directions for the FIR.  Rana also pointed out that if the dignity of the house “is to be maintained then action should be taken against the Minister.’’

Later when the BJP president, Sat Pal Sharma, was speaking over the GST, Rana continued to intervene and press with his demand that the Speaker should order an action over the matter.

Taking a dig at the PDP-BJP government, Rana said that the government was approving unparlimentary actions by Ministers. Intervening during the ruckus, Social Welfare Minister, Sajad Lone, said that Rana was trying to create an unnecessary controversy and reminded that there “ can’t be two sets of standards for those common men who get killed innocently and the legislators.’’ He said that if there would be FIRs then hundreds of cases can be lodged against the NC MLAs.

Earlier speaking over the issue, BJP leader, Satpal Sharma, said that by seeking the filing of FIR, Opposition was displaying its “ petty’’ thinking.

“Yesterday we were also told that like Syama Prasad Mukherjee was killed in Kashmir you will also be killed like that. Action should in that statement too,’’ Sharma said.

Speaker Gupta however, apologized and asked the members to restrain from calling each other names and threatening each other.
