JKLF Chief Yasin Malik remanded to judicial custody till June 26

The chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF), Muhammad Yasin Malik, was arrested, on Saturday, by police and was lodged in the Central Jail.

Police had cordoned off the Malik’s residence. He was then arrested and was sent to Srinagar central jail on judicial remand till June 26.

JKLF vice chairman, Showkat Ahmad Bakhshi, is also in police custody since many days. He is languishing in Parimpora police station.

Prior to his arrest, JKLF chairman said that on Eid prisoners are usually released from jails and police stations, but the PDP-BJP government has made a new norm in Kashmir. They are arresting more and more people and incarcerating them in jails on this auspicious occasion.

He said the authorities were unhappy with his Charar-i-Sharif visit and that is why we had been arrested. “The authorities had put a blanket ban on peaceful political and religious activities in Kashmir. The Charar-i-Sharif jalsa was conducted in a peaceful manner.

Meanwhile, JKLF chairman expressed grief over the demise of mother of Kashmir Mass Movement chief Mtr. Fareeda Behenjee.

A delegation of JKLF comprising Noor Muhammad Kalwal, Zahoor Ahmad Butt, Abdul Rashid Magloo, Muhammad Altaf and Muhammad Azeem Zargar visited Brath Sopore and Indergam Pattan visited the families of Gulzar Ahmad and Basit Ahmad, who were recently killed, and expressed solidarity.
