Auqaf committee demands transfer of tehsildar

The Auqaf Committee of Sumbal in Bandipora district has protested against a revenue official posted in the area for allegedly misbehaving and threatening them when they went to him for redressal of grievances.

The committee has threatened protests and shutdown in the area if the government ‘does not transfer the tehsildar immediately’.

Jan Muhammad, Secretary of the Committee said that the tehsildar of Sumbal kept them waiting for an hour outside the office and then misbehaved with them when they entered his office after being called. “We went to the tehsildar hoping redressal of our grievances. But the official misbehaved with us when we entered his office after his peon called us in,” he said.

Meanwhile, Teshildar Sumbal, Bilal Ahmad, refuted the allegations levelled by the committee and told that the persons, who claim to be members of Auqaf, are few locals who want to encroach on a government land belonging to the Animal Husbandry Department.

“Police have registered an FIR against them after we complained against them for threatening a government official and encroaching land. These individuals do not have any association with the Auqaf.”
