Geelani cracks the whip, suspends Nayeem Khan

Syed Ali Geelani, the head of a faction of Hurriyat, on Saturday gave a strong signal that he would brook no misconduct by any of the constituents of his faction of Hurriyat when he suspended Nayeem Khan and his party from Hurriyat Conference.

The move came after a national news channel aired a sting operation, where three leaders including Nayeem Khan, Farooq Ahmad Dar (Bitta Karatey), Chairman JKLF (R) and an activist from Tehreek e Hurriyat, Gazi Baba have been shown telling the channel that they have been accepting money from Pakistan to incite violence. The suspension, as per the statement “will come into force with immediate effect in Srinagar and Hurriyat chapter of Azad Kashmir.”

“We summoned all constituent members including Nayeem Ahmad Khan to facilitate him to keep his view point before executive body, however police authorities did not allow leaders to hold a meeting at his residence in Hyderpora,” the statement said.

Syed Ali Geelani said that “though Nayeem Ahmad Khan in a press conference  has raised questions over the veracity of said clip and added that in pursuance of special power vested in me as chairman and until the clarification of all related issues come to fore, the membership will remain suspended. It is my moral duty and as a supreme head of forum I am obliged to fulfil assigned duties,” said the statement.

While ridiculing the Indian media, Geelani said that “India media for their partial and biased reporting are promoting colonial mindset and added that Indian media is hell-bent to bring bad name to leadership and defame ongoing freedom struggle.” Saying that Indian media is relying on lies and concocted and sensational stories, he said that “these baseless stories are far from realities.”

However, Nayeem Khan today reacted on the issue at a hurriedly called press conference, saying that the videos that are being showed are doctored, and the move aimed to defame out struggle.
