Restriction in some parts of Srinagar

Ahead of the “Hafta-e-Shahdat” (martyrs’ week) programme of Hurriyat-M to commemorate the death anniversaries of Late Mirwaiz Moulvi Mohammad Farooq and Late Abdul Gani Lone, who were assassinated on May 21 in 1990, and 2002 respectively authorities today announced restrictions on the assembly of people in five police station areas of Srinagar on Sunday as a “precautionary measure to maintain law and order”.

According to the reports, the road from the Nawab Bazar to SMHS hospital has been blocked by the police and para military forces.

Meanwhile, all the entry points to the Iddgah have been blocked too, sources said.

Pertinently, District Magistrate (Deputy Commissioner) Srinagar, Farooq Ahmad Lone, yesterday announced restrictions under the jurisdictions of Police Stations Nowhatta, M R Gunj, Rainawari, Khanyar and Safakadal as a “precautionary measure to avoid any untoward incident”.
