Residents decry unauthorised land excavation

Budgam residents Friday criticized the district administration for failing to check the menace of land excavation in most parts of the district.

“Despite J&K’s Land Revenue Act’s Section 133-A banning any kind of soil excavation for personal gains. This process is on unabated in many areas of central Kashmir’s Budgam district under the nose of the district administration. The land Mafia’s are active to vandalize the natural karewas,” a local resident said.

He said that presently, Soil, Bajri and Sand is being excavated within the district headquarters from famous “Mamath Wudder” during odd hours to avoid any official interference.

“Even a makeshift road from Dardpora Budgam village to Mamath Wudder has been made for vandalizing the karewa,” the resident alleged.

He said that at a time when people of Kashmir valley are facing lots of hardships due to killings, curfews, and while administration is busy in maintaining law and order situations, there are some vested interested people who are taking advantage of this crisis.

“The issue has already been raised time and again but there has been no change in the process of excavation. Scores of tippers are ferrying soil to other places without any fear in a broad day light now,” said the local residents.
