Minister reviews functioning of I&FC Department

The Minister of State for Haj and Auqaf (Independent Charge), PHE, I&FC and PDD, Syed Farooq Andrabi, today chaired a meeting to review the functioning of the Irrigation and Flood Control Department, Kashmir, and took stock of works being executed by the Department.

The meeting was attended by Chief Engineer, Superintending Engineers, Executive Engineers and other concerned officials of the Department.

The Minister was briefed about Phase I of Priority Works: Comprehensive Flood Management Plan and other plans the Department is adopting in future on the River Jhelum and its tributaries for flood management in the Valley. He was informed that while the project is scheduled to be completed by December 2017  at an estimated cost of Rs. 399.29 crore,  out of which  an expenditure of Rs. 120.79 crore has been registered till March 2017 on the said project. It was given out that DPR for Phase II of the project is currently under formulation.

Andrabi also took review of ongoing dredging work by M/S Reach Dredging Ltd. in River Jhelum in Srinagar and Sopore, Baramulla. He was informed that about 1.90 lac and 2.70 lac cubic meters have so far been dredged out in Srinagar and Sopore respectively.

During the meeting, the Minister also sought district-wise details about gravity and lift irrigation schemes operating in the Valley and directed the concerned engineers to ensure smooth and hassle-free irrigation supplies and dewatering process.

The Minister also took stock of works executed under SDRF in the Valley.
