Massive search operations in South Kashmir

Massive cordon and search operation has been launched  by Army, paramilitary and police in around 20 villages in Shopian and Pulwama districts, sources said.

They have started house-to-house searches and the operation is in progress, reports from Shopian said.

The cordon was laid down by a joint team of 55-Rashtriya Rifles, 44 Rashtriya Rifles, 114 CRPF and police and SOG from Shopian, reports said.

“These are general searches for the militants,” Tahir Saleem, SSP Shopian told a local newspaper.

“These are half a dozen villages and we are searching homes for militants,” he said.

The villages which are in the broad siege include Heaf, Sugan, Chilipora, Malnad, and other neighbouring villages.

Reports said that the recent video of 30 militants which surfaced on social media, is the main reason behind the search operation.

It is believed that the location of that video is somewhere in this belt.

Pertinently during the last couple of days there has been a series of militant attacks and a long chain of bank robbery incidents in and around the same belt.
