From taking his first administrative decision of withdrawing the controversial Amarnath shrine land transfer order in J&K to tackling the anger and rage on the streets across Kashmir Valley since the past many years, Narinder Nath Vohra has been in the thick and thin of it all.  

N. Vohra, a seasoned bureaucrat presently holding the position of Governor in the state of Jammu and Kashmir is finally set to bid adieu to the Rajbhawan as the central government is all set to replace him soon.

Sources in know of the development confirmed to ‘Kashmir Vision’ that Vohra is being replaced by a new appointee as the federal government feels that Vohra has spent enough time in the restive state.

Vohra who took over from S K Sinha on June 25, 2008 was the first civilian governor of state in 18 years after Jagmohan.

“Vohra is being replaced by a senior administrator, who has a fair knowledge and understanding about Kashmir,” sources privy to the development said.

Interestingly, Vohra who has been camping in Delhi from the past several days too has been made aware of the development. Vohra also met Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday, reportedly to discuss the worsening security and law and order situation in the state.

Sources said that at one point of time former cop and BJP leader Kiren Bedi was also shortlisted for handling the governor’s assignment in the state. Even though she met Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Wednesday, but sources said that her name has been dropped from the list of probables.

The union home ministry is believed to be working out to finalise a name of a senior administrator who has had several stints in the state.

“The Ministry is also working on some names which includes some former bureaucrats who have put in several years of service in the state,” sources added.

“Some top cops who have had successful tenures in the state have also been consulted and their names too are being shortlisted for the panel of probables,” the sources said.
