Govt failed to safeguard civilians in Kashmir: NC

National Conference, (NC) on Monday, expressed dismay over the continuous and unrelenting cycle of death in the Valley and blamed the ruling coalition of PDP-BJP for failing to safeguard the lives of innocent civilians.

The NC general secretary, Ali Mohammad Sagar, condemned the killing of the 65-year-old civilian Ghulam Mohammad Khan of Illahibagh in a grenade attack near Khanyar police station. “It’s highly regretful that a civilian died in a grenade attack. We express our condolences to the bereaved family and pray for the speedy recovery of the injured.”

“As incharge of the Home Department, it is Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, who is supposed to maintain peace in the state but so far she has failed miserably in doing so. The unabated killings of civilians in the state are reminiscent of the dark phase of Kashmir.”

While demanding an extraordinary ex-gratia for the next of kin of GM Khan, Sagar said, “I fail to understand why the government has not been able to put a halt to such senseless killings throughout the state. It is therefore imperative that those involved in spreading fear among the masses be exposed and brought to book.”

“The government must unmask those, who are behind these incidents. Whether it was the killing of a public prosecutor in Shopian or a political worker in Pulwama or the attack in Pulwama where a civilian was grievously injured, government so far has not done anything beyond the ritualistic tear shedding and is letting those behind such heinous crimes go scot free,” Sagar said.
