Clashes erupted after youth hurled stones on forces who were trying to lay a siege around Sugan village in South Kashmir’s Shopian district on Thursday.
Witnesses said that youth took to streets and staged protests as forces were trying to cordon off the village.
Witness added that forces used tear gas to disperse the protesters, triggering clashes.
Police official said that the cordon and search operation was being laid in Sugan village following inputs about the presence of militants there.
The official added that forces maintained maximum restraint during the search operation and none from either sides was injured despite stone pelting continuing for more than two hours until forces made an exit from the spot.
Similarly cordon was laid in Noorpora village of Awantipora Tehsil. Noorpora is the home village of Divisional Commander Hizbul Mujahideen Zakir Rashid alias Moosa.
However, no protests were held in the village. Reports said that forces continued search operation for almost two hours and concluded their operation peacefully.
