Happy over her posting in Kashmir, the first female police officer to head the Department of Traffic City said she was ready to go anywhere her work takes her.
“Where ever my work will take me, I am always ready to go there and getting a posting here did not come as a surprise,” said the 27-year-old Superintendent of Police (SP) Traffic City Sargun Shukla in an exclusive chat to Kashmir Vision.
“During our IPS training, we have to give the preference to all the places of postings that includes all the places from Kashmir to Kanyakumari. I don’t feel sacred working here though I am living alone,” she said.
When asked that how will she bring change in the traffic scenario of the city, she said that the entire department is working hard over it.
“We have cracked down on the encroachments, wrong parking in the city. We have directed the officials holding the construction works in the city to speed up their as it was leading to traffic mess on everyday basis,” she said.
“To streamline the traffic movement in the city, we made two connecting bridges functional that includes Jawhar Nagar-Mejhoor Nagar and Barzulla-Allochi Bagh which will definitely ease the miseries of the city residents. Last month, we also organized a cycle rally for the safety awareness.”
Talking about her background, Sargun Shukla, said she that does not watch movies and was able to crack IPS exam due to her reading habit.
“I landed in police not by choice but chance. I sat in the exam and qualified it but now I am happy with my job.”
Shukla, who hails from Patiala in Punjab has completed her post-graduation in Psychology from Patiala University and later did PhD in the same subject.
She is an IPS officer of the 2012 batch and was first posted as ASP (Under Training) and then, SDPO Nowshera, Rajouri where she served for more than 18 months and later she worked as Additional SP Bhaderwah.
In the history of traffic department Kashmir, Shukla is the first female police officer to be posted as SP Traffic City. She took over on February 11 this year.
