KU all set to teach Philosophy, Archaeology and Anthropology

The wait is finally over as the University of Kashmir has decided to start Post Graduate (PG) courses in Anthropology, Archaeology, and the mother of all subjects, Philosophy.

The decision was taken in a meeting of academic council and the concerned officials were directed to prepare the grounds for the decision to be implemented.

“The decision was taken, keeping in view the long pending demands from the students other sections of the society that the subjects like Anthropology, Archaeology and Philosophy should be started in the varsity” said Prof M Ashraf Wani, Dean Academic Affairs, University of Kashmir.

The students can apply for the PG course in Archaeology this year, but those who want to apply for Anthropology and Philosophy may have to wait till the end of this year.

“We will have to prepare grounds for that, like we have to make necessary addition to the central library; we will have to make arrangements for accommodation, and most importantly the faculty for these subjects; so it will take some more time,” he said.

While the students are happy with the decision, they, at the same time are asking that why were not all the necessary arrangements made earlier so that the students would have been able to opt for the all the three courses from the new academic session that is all set to begin.

“They (University authorities) should have made it possible for the students to apply for these courses from the new academic session that is all set to begin, now that the decision has been taken, why wait?” said Qurat-ul-Ain, a college student.

The students are largely hailing the decision of the University authorities, saying that “mother of all subjects” has finally been shown the door of Kashmir’s highest seat of learning.
