Geelani condemns re-arrest of Masarat Alam

Strongly condemning the re-arrest of senior Hurriyat leader Masarat Alam Bhat, Chairman Hurriyat Conference (G), Syed Ali Geelani alleged that the state administration is treating these detainees with vengeance.

Expressing concern over party leader Mohammad Rustum Bhat’s deteriorating health condition he said that state administration is paying no heed to the rights of these detainees.

Geelani said that there is no legal justification for Masarat Alam’s continuous detention, as judiciary bailed him out of all cases and charges. “The agencies are creating hurdles and prolonging his detention.”

“The state administration is incompetent enough to make a free and fair decision in Alam’s case.”

He said that Mohammad Rustum Bhat was languishing in the jail since last seven months and his health was deteriorating as no proper treatment was being provided to him. He warned the administration that they would have to face consequences if anything happens to ailing Bhat.

Meanwhile, he expressed deep concern over the killing of political worker, Ad Abdul Gani Dar and said that there is no justification for these killings.

“It is unfair and against humanity to kill people for their ideologies or affiliations. This will lead us to chaos and killing merely for political affiliations is against teachings of Islam,” the veteran leader said.

Syed Ali Geelani also expressed grief over the sad demise of late president of Jamiat-e-Ahalihadees, Maulana Showkat Ahmad Shah’s mother.
