Congress forms Manmohan Singh-led ‘policy-planning’ group for JK

All India Congress Committee (AICC) president, Sonia Gandhi, on Wednesday constituted a policy-planning group for Jammu and Kashmir under the capable chairmanship of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, sources said.

The policy-planning group will comprise nine leaders, including Dr. Manmohan Singh and the aim of this group would be to hold dialogue with all the stakeholders to promote peace building in the state.

The Congress leadership took the decision of forming the policy-planning group due to the fragile political and delicate security situation in the Valley, reliable sources told KNS.

Besides Dr. Manmohan Singh, the other eight leaders that form the policy-planning group, include senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha member, Dr. Karan Singh, former finance minister and senior Congress leader, P Chidambaram, Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha, Ghulam Nabi Azad, AICC general secretary, Ambika Soni, Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee chief, Ghulam Ahmad Mir, Congress leader, Nawang Rigzin Jora, senior Congress leader, Tariq Hameed Karra and senior Congress leader, Shyam Lal Sharma.

The group, according to the sources, was constituted after, the newly inducted leader in the party, Tariq Hameed Karra urged the Congress high command to take concrete steps regarding the resolution of Kashmir issue.
