Stinagar:The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) Kashmir has arrested Abdul Majeed Mir, a resident of Lashtiyal, Kalaroos in Kupwara, in connection with multiple cases of cheating and forgery.
In a handout, the police said that the arrest was made on a warrant issued by the Principal District and Sessions Judge Srinagar in FIR No. 17/2015 registered at Crime Branch Kashmir under Sections 420, 467, 468, 471 and 120-B RPC. A charge sheet has already been filed in the case.
Officials said Mir is involved in 11 cases related to cheating and use of fake employment documents. Four cases are under investigation while seven have been charge-sheeted.
The cases are registered at Crime Branch Kashmir, Maisuma, Kupwara, Pantha Chowk, Lal Bazar and EOW Kashmir between 2015 and 2026.
After his arrest, Mir was produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody. He has been lodged in Central Jail Srinagar.
EOW has advised people to be cautious of fraudsters offering fake government jobs or forged appointment letters. People have been asked to report such cases to the nearest police station or Crime Branch, reads the statement.(GNS)
