Sopore observes shutdown against Batamaloo killing

 

Sopore town in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district observed a complete shutdown against the killing of 22 year old youth Sajad Hussain Waza allegedly by security forces at Batamaloo on Saturday evening.

All shops and business establishments remain closed while public transport was off the roads, reports said.

At various places youth pelted stones on private vehicles who were plying on the roads in the town, eye witnesses said.

“Dozens of vehicle were fully or partially damaged when some youths appeared at Main Chowk, Bus Stand, Iqbal Market, Batpora and Tehsil road and pelted stones on private and public transport to enforce a shutdown,” they added.

A senior police officer posted in the area said that security forces were deployed in strength to keep stone pelters at bay.
