Clashes erupted between the government forces and protesters in north Kashmir’s Sopore town after Friday congregational prayers.
Protesters attempted to march from Jamia Masjid area to main Chowk shouting pro-freedom slogans but they were stopped by the government forces, witnesses said.
This resulted in clashes in the area as the angry protesters pelted stones on forces who retaliated with tear smoke shells in which three youths sustained injuries. Condition of one them identified as Azad Ashraf of Nowhamam sopore is stated to be critical, they added.
Panic gripped the area after the incident. Shopkeepers downed their shutters and traffic movement came to a grinding halt. The ding dong battle continued till evening.
