Arrests in Tahab Pulwama triggers protests

A complete shutdown was observed on Thursday in Tahab area of Pulwama district against the killing of a woman and arrest of dozens of youth during a nocturnal raid. A woman died allegedly due to suffocation caused by intense teargas shelling by government forces in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Tuesday. Reports said that 32 youth were arrested during raids in twin villages of Tahab and Naira last night. The arrests triggered a shutdown in the area with shopkeepers stayed away from the market. Reports said that public transport also remained off the roads. Locals said that CRPF 182 Battalion camp has become a continuous nuisance for them. They said that some youth from adjacent areas frequently attack the camp with stones as a result the area witnesses’ violent clashes. They demanded that this camp should be removed from the area.
