RAJOURI: Contractors working for Irrigation and Flood Control Department (IFCD) are going for hunger strike to protest government delay in payments for the works carried since 2011.
The Contractors Association, which met under the chairmanship of district president Rajouri, Ishfaq Ahmed Mirza said the protest will be held in front of the divisional office the IFCD.
Mirza said government has stopped payment worth Rs 3.5 crore to different contractors of the district. He said the works though have been completed before June 2012, but so far the payments have been kept in abeyance.
The contractors said that the IFCD officials sent the work done liability to the concerned division in 2012, but even after three years they are not willing to pay the bills.
This delay according to the contractors has put them in a financial stress and they are not in a position to pay the wages to labor engaged. Left with no alternative the contractors say that hunger strike is the only option left with them to move the government.
Those who attended the meeting include contractors, Manzoor Malik, Abdul Qayoom Bhat, Daleep Kumar, Kushal Kumar , Mohd Ashraf Mirza, Abdul Majeed Qureshi, Mohd Altaf Bhat, Manzoor Ahmed Mirza, Abdul Qayoom Bhat and Wazir Mohammad.
