Commissioner Secretary Dr Shahid Choudhary leads mega event in Srinagar
SRINAGAR: The Directorate of Youth Services and Sports (YSS), J&K, celebrated the 12th International Yoga Day with large-scale, vibrant yoga sessions organised across the length and breadth of the Union Territory, reaffirming its commitment to youth wellness, fitness, and a drug-free society, with lakhs of students and employees participating in the synchronised celebrations.
In Srinagar, the main regional event was held at the picturesque Emporium Park near Zero Bridge, where Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, Commissioner Secretary to the Government, Department of Youth Services and Sports, J&K, attended as the Chief Guest and led the proceedings. The event witnessed an impressive turnout of youth, local athletes, schoolchildren, and departmental field functionaries, lending a spirited and celebratory atmosphere to the occasion.
Senior officers of the Department, including the Joint Director Kashmir, District Youth Services and Sports Officer Srinagar, and Zonal-level officers, actively participated in the yoga sessions alongside hundreds of students and members of the departmental staff. The formal yoga session was conducted by Yoga Instructor Mohammad Tahir, while Azhar Hajini anchored the proceedings.
On the occasion, Dr Shahid also administered the Nasha Mukt pledge to the assembled youth and staff, underscoring the Department’s continued resolve to build a healthy, aware, and addiction-free generation. Addressing the gathering, he called upon participants to embrace the holistic benefits of yoga and dedicate themselves to this year’s theme, “Yoga for Healthy Aging,” emphasising that regular practice of yoga is essential for lifelong vitality, balance, and inner strength.
Reports of similar energetic and well-attended yoga sessions organised by field officers of the Directorate were received from all district and zonal headquarters across the Union Territory, highlighting the unmatched outreach and grassroots presence of YSS in advancing wellness, discipline, and positive youth engagement throughout Jammu and Kashmir.
