‘SRTC made appointments without advertisement’

Srinagar: The State Road Transport Corporation (SRTC) in its reply to an applicant under Right to Information Act has revealed that no advertisement was issued by it for filling up of the posts of apprentice engineers during the National Conference government in 1996-97.
According to a local news agency CNS, in reply to the information sought by an RTI activist Junaid Nazir of Shaheed Gunj, Srinagar, SRTC has revealed that in order to recruit apprentice engineers and other officers in the Corporation in 1996-97, no proper advertisement was issued and that the whole exercise was done after obtaining approval of the then Minister for Transport who also happened to be the chairman SRTC.
In response to a question whether the SRTC has authority to recruit engineers by itself without referring the posts to Service Selection Board, the Corporation has maintained that the posts in government department are only referred to SSRB whereas Corporation engaged as per their recruitment regulations with the approval of Chairman.
