Geelani barred from Friday prayers, again

Srinagar: Chairman Hurriyat (G) Syed Ali Geelani Friday was once again barred from offering congregational prayers.
In a statement, a spokesman said that Geelani continues to remain under house arrest.” Geelani sahib was released for a very short span of time after the floods in Kashmir but was once again placed under house detention as soon as the announcement for the elections
was made,” he added.
The spokesman said that a huge consignment of police remains deployed round the clock around the residence of Geelani. “His house detention has no court orders nor have police
produced any written order from the state administration. A responsible leader is being detained in his home on the gun point and all his religious, social and political activities have been banned,” he added.
He said that it was a grave human rights violation and urged the HR organization to take a strong notice of it.
Meanwhile, the spokesman said that funeral prayers in absentia for the children killed in an attack in Peshawar were held across the Valley.
He said that party leader Peer Saifullah led the prayers at Hyderpora, Raja Mehraj-ud-din at Masjid Iqra Saraibala and Muhammad Shafi Wagay in Anantnag.
