Jammu: An Army soldier allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with his service rifle in Poonch district Tuesday.
Deployed in forward area in Poonch, 23-year-old sepoy Parna Murmu allegedly shot himself with his service rifle at 0900 hrs, the PRO Defence said.
The soldier, who hailed from Madhepura district in Bihar, was performing his duty when he fatally shot himself, he said adding the body had been sent for post mortem.
A court of inquiry had been ordered into the incident, the PRO said.
